CLIENT: 3-Day Novel PROBLEM: The client wanted to maintain the branding of the 33rd annual, while incorporating something new. The poster was sent to me with the concept of construction characters renovating it into the 34th Anual poster. SOLUTION: The design of the character has the right level of quirkiness, cuteness and charm so as [...]

PROBLEM: Peace prevails over the lies of war. SOLUTION: War is a hollow, angry, tense and giant thing, motivated by needs which are often immature, and often exploiting the brave men and women who help to facilitate it. Representing this is a chalk-like image of a child’s toy, a puppet, angry and so large it [...]

CLIENT: Baxter Pharmaceuticals, Medical Affairs Team PROBLEM: Baxter wanted to circulate an internal flyer promoting and informing their employees on their Medical Affairs team, who they are and what they do. The flyer had to be in-line with their brand and convey the sense of teamwork. SOLUTION: Straightforwardness. The typeface (Helvetica, although Matthew Gruman would [...]

CLIENT: Robert Alvo, for his upcoming book “Being a Bird in North America“ Just a simple illustration of the Spotted Owl, rendered on the Wacom, using Photoshop & Illustrator. I removed other elements that I feel didn’t work, but if you want to see them, I encourage you to buy the book on its release! [...]

CLIENT: Robert Alvo, for his upcoming book “Being a Bird in North Ameria“ The illustration was a bit of a challenge given the space restraints, literally in print, a 2 inch by 2 inch square. The idea of a bird having been introduced in North America for the sole purpose of being hunted struck me [...]

This conversation actually happened. I only remembered the punchline, delivered here verbatim, but not the details of Laura’s dream, which I made-up for the purposes of delivering this comic. I guess that makes this issue of TST semi-fiction. Or perhaps “inspired by true events.” It should be mentioned that my fiance Laura did not have [...]

The final sketch for the march of Dimes eBay Charity Auction is not a life-drawing from the Cottage in Point Clark, but instead, something more akin to the rest of the work being submitted by other artists involved -a superhero. The Batman, to be precise. One of the all time classics, rendered unclassically, although not [...]

My dog Loki, an Australian Kelpie, soundly asleep and giving me the perfect opportunity to sketch him! Ink and Brush.

A bottle of Yellow Tail Shiraz, polished off and waiting to be recycled. The whole cottage is made of wood, stained dark and deep with age. I love this sketch, the third in the eBay Charity Auction for March of Dimes. Rendered with ink & brush.

Closer to the Lighthouse, and further into land. Neither particularly magnificent nor towering, the Lighthouse in Point Clark has something magical, almost haunting, about it. It might have to do with the structure being over 150 years old and the first structure in Canada to be named a Historic Site.

Sketch from the far end of the beach of the lighthouse and surrounding scenery (Pretty much just Lake Huron), at Point Clark, ON. This sketch was the first on a series of five 2″ by 3″ Sketch-Cards. The cards are to be auctioned off on eBay to raise money for the March of Dimes. At [...]

Concept sketch for an Anime style video game about young students who are also detectives. I chose to break style and have a little fun with it. Again, rendered on a WACOM tablet.

Another Illustration showcasing a Children’s Book style, running with the concept of a Blue Cat. Rendered without paper on a WACOM tablet.

First page of a children’s book, rendered without paper on a WACOM tablet.

Second page of a children’s book illustration, rendered without paper on a WACOM tablet.

This concept poster was developed utilizing the illustrations. The poster was conceived and designed in collaboration with Graham Paulsen at 5D Media & Design. The intent was to make a poster that would advertise and promote the Core Values of the YSM on a visual level that appeals to the people the mission serves.

Inspired by the YSM Core Value of Dignity. Rendered without paper on a Wacom Tablet.

Inspired by the YSM’s core-value of Creativity. Rendered without paper on a WACOM tablet.

A caricature sketch of Gordon Downie, lead vocalist of Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip.

Rendered digitally, with a WACOM Tablet. I used a photo I took as reference. The illustration is of the bust of a lion, emerging from the wall at the ruins in Balbeck. The lion’s head, for whatever reason, has become iconic of the location. I thought I’d contribute with my tiny little drawing.

Rendered digitally with a Wacom Tablet, using my own photo as reference. I took a different stylistic approach to this one, using the more whimsical aesthetic seen in some of my portraiture (here and here, for example)

Rendered digitally, with a Wacom Tablet, using a photo I took as reference. Raousha is a rock formation off the coast of Lebanon, and a popular view for tourists.
