PROBLEM: Peace prevails over the lies of war.
SOLUTION: War is a hollow, angry, tense and giant thing, motivated by needs which are often immature, and often exploiting the brave men and women who help to facilitate it. Representing this is a chalk-like image of a child’s toy, a puppet, angry and so large it can barely be contained on the canvas, conveying the tension I wanted. For Peace, I relied on the common depiction of a dove, although I gave the bird a sense of warmth and light (befitting of Peace) with a it of yellow as opposed to the common white, so as to break up colour a bit, and provide a point of focus.
I have a thing for cliches and iconography. I think this painting successfully covneys the message, with a bit of wiggle room for viewers to interpret themselves.
The painting itself is now somewhere in Lebanon.
Acrylic on Canvas.
